A Day on the Coast – Beginning DSLR Photography

In this comprehensive one day workshop you will learn the essentials of digital SLR photography. The workshop begins with a 2 hour class room session and ends with an afternoon of photography on California’s beautiful San Mateo coast. A full 8 hours of instruction is included in the fee.
The morning classroom session will focus on the following subjects:

Essential camera functions

Aperture and depth of field

Shutter speeds and controlling motion

Reading your meter and exposure
-
Resolution, ISO and white balance
-
Camera accessories
-
Basic composition techniques
-
Using your camera manually
In the afternoon we will be photographing some of the most spectacular sites along the San Mateo Coast. The objective will be to fine tune the skills learned in the classroom as well as to develop a better understanding of composition and the aesthetics of what makes a good photograph.
The goal of this workshop is learning to enjoy photography through understanding basic camera functions and the application of key photographic principles. By the end of this class each photographer will know what it takes to create distinctive images with their DSLR camera.
Participants must own a digital SLR camera (equipment list) and be able to walk one half mile on moderate terrain.
Workshop Fee: $135.00
(Fee includes 8 hours instruction and lunch. Participants are responsible for their own meals and transportation.)

On Assignment: Point Lobos State Reserve
2 Day Landscape and Nature Photography Workshop
May 5 & 6, 2012
Spend two days photographing and exploring the rocky shoreline of Point Lobos with photographer and outdoor instructor Paul Dileanis.
Follow in the footsteps of Ansel Adams and Edward Weston as we photograph and explore the windswept beaches, trails, cliffs, and mystical forests of California’s premier State Reserve. Technical and aesthetic issues will be examined with the goal of creating images that are uniquely your own. Problem solving is a high priority in this workshop along with developing personal style and vision.
Included in this workshop will be a Saturday Lecture and a Sunday Critique session.
Classes are kept small (6-8) to assure individual guidance.
